Does a base tan prevent sunburns/cancer/etc.?
- No. a base tan will not prevent sunburns, cancer, or any other kind of skin conditions that you can get out in the sun. Although there are certain health conditions that provide an exception to this rule, your doctor would make you aware of such needs.Any form of repeated UV ray exposure increases your risk for sunburns and cancer.
[Back to Top] Are there any extra precautions you should take when tanning while pregnant?
- Yes! You should first talk to your midwife or OB GYN before going tanning so as to get their clearance on the matter. If they feel you would be fine, be sure to use great protection, be situated near a cool, shady area, and keep a bottle of water with you to stay hydrated. Dehydration and overheating are the two things you need to avoid while pregnant and tanning.
[Back to Top] Does tanning help with depression?
- Yes, it can, but it depends on what is causing your depression. Tanning out in the sun can be helpful of you have depression brought on by a vitamin D deficiency. Tanning can also help with depression if it is something that makes you happy, personally. If you suffer from depression, do not attempt to treat it on your own; it’s best to see a doctor to determine your path of treatment, but bringing up the idea of tanning is not a bad idea if you think it could help you!
[Back to Top] Is tanning good for you?
- No. Healthwise, the risks really outweigh the benefits in the long run, and any reliable source would agree. With the potential for sunburns, premature aging, and skin cancer, you really gamble a lot when you are trying to catch a tan. Oh, the things we put ourselves through to look good!
[Back to Top] Is it safe to tan while using Accutane?
- No. There is a good reason why the label of Accutane contains precautions against sun exposure. In actuality, you should probably wait a couple of months after taking Accutane before you begin tanning again, so as to allow it enough time to completely get our of your system. Also, be sure to check the precautions on any medications you take or cleansers you use to make sure it is okay to be in sunlight.
[Back to Top] What are the side effects of tanning?
- Whether you are out in the sun or in a tanning bed, there’s some side effects that you may experience: darkening of the skin (tan), sunburn, itching, dry skin, overheating, premature aging, skin cancer, scarring, freckles, tan lines, eye problems, and infection (from unsanitary tanning beds).Of course, you may experience one of these side effects, one of these side effects or all of them eventually, each person is different, and it’s important to be as safe as possible when exposed to UV rays.
[Back to Top] Is it safe to tan every day?
- No. It’s not really necessary, either. Tanning in general isn’t really safe since you increase your chances of getting skin cancer, premature aging, and other forms of skin damage, and risk certainly increases with frequency. If you want to tan every day, the best way to do this is with a self-tanner at home. I know, it’s not the same experience as laying out in the sun or going to a tanning salon but you sure wouldn’t be soaking in all of those UV rays.
[Back to Top] Is it OK for fair skinned people to tan?
- It’s just as okay as it is for anyone else. Some fair skinned people will tan just fine, while others will swear that they only burn. It really depends on the person. Use plenty of sun protection, try it out, and see if it’s for you.If you don’t react well to sun tanning or tanning booths, try a spray tan. At least you won’t have to worry about burning!
