What are tanning products and are they required?
- If a product is specifically designed to be used before, during, or after tanning, then it is a tanning product. Certain tanning products are required at tanning salons, and should always be required by you for your own health and safe tanning.Certain products are designed for indoor and some are designed to be used in the sun, so be mindful of the labels on the bottles until you become familiar with the products.

- It can, depending on how much you put on, what SPF it contains, and how long you stay out in the sun, but there is a chance that it will not prevent tanning entirely. It is not designed to prevent a tan, but it should definitely work in your favor to prevent a sunburn when used as directed.

- No. Tanning oil is designed to attract the sunlight in order to achieve a faster and/or darker tan. Some contain a SPF, but it’s never really enough for adequate protection. - This all depends on the individual person! Everyone is unique in their skin types and preferences in skin tones, so it really matters what you want!Use tanning oil if you don’t burn easily and have a desire to get a deep tan from the sun. Tanning lotion should be used when you want to get a tan, and the right kind of lotion should be used dependent on where you are tanning: Indoor or outdoor. What are tanning goggles for?
- Since your eyelids cannot do a very good job protecting your eyes from the harmful UV rays, there is this silly-looking invention called tanning goggles used in tanning beds and spray tanning! Yes, they do look funny, but who is looking at you in a tanning bed anyway? They do their job, and tend to be pretty compact, so you likely won’t get the ever-so-dreaded raccoon eyes. Do not skip out on needed eyewear! We have a whole guide for tanning goggles.
[Back to Top] Are there any products to protect sensitive areas like lips, eyes and other places?
- Yes. For lips, you should wear a lip balm with SPF. You can find it with all of the other lip balms usually, or in the aisle with the sunscreens, tanning lotions, and so on. For your eyes, it’s best to stick with tanning goggles in a tanning booth, or a hat out in the sun; they also make disposable, stick on eye protection, such as WinkEase. If you are tanning in the buff, you’ll want to think about covering your lady parts because having burns there is not a good time! You can protect your nipples with nipples shields which resemble pasties, and you can protect your down-below with disposable g-strings for tanning.

If you really want to know about tanning products, look up products and their reviews; reviews tend to give a good look into a products quality and be a good thing to base purchasing decisions off of.
It also helps to go right to a tanning salon and ask about their products, and to get recommendations from other friends who frequent the UV rays. Word-of-mouth is one of the best reviews you can get on a product, especially for a tanning product!
